A very rare and local species in Belgium.
Distribution insufficiently known due to the great resemblance to the genus Phycitodes, especially worn individuals.
After 1980 there are no verified observations available.
Native
Wingspan 21–26 mm.
The larvae develop in the flower heads, feeding on the ripening fruits and the involucre. Larvae of other species that happen to live in the same head are eaten as well.
The adullts are mainly on the wing during June and July.
The larvae feed polyphagous on composites (Asteraceae) on the flowers and seeds of Cirsium vulgare, Senecio jacobaea, Tanacetum vulgare, Leucanthemum vulgare etc...
Frequenting dry, chalky or sandy habitats.
