Flagellum
Description:
The third part of an antenna, constituted of every antennomeres beyond the first (= the scape) and the second ones (= the pedicel). This term, useful elsewhere in the Insect taxonomy, is rarely used for ants. Confusingly, it is sometimes used as synonym of funiculus. However the later defines, in ants, the group of all antennomeres located beyond the scape, the second antennomere included.
