Sting
Description:(= Sting apparatus). In ants, and more globally in aculeate Hymenoptera, the ovipositor (= the egg-laying appendage of female insects) that is modified and specialized for injecting toxin (but that does not pass eggs). The sting apparatus is derived from the abdominal segments 5 to 11 (Kugler, 1978).
