Wingspan 15-19 mm. Orange-brown forewings with silver-grey or whitish-grey markings forming diffuse transverse bands. The light crossbands have abundant dark scales.

Bionomics

The larva lives in a shoot of the food plant. It hibernates. Pupation usually takes place in the larval feeding place, or between needles spun together.
The adults are active at dusk and come to light.
