Pronotum

Description:

The tergite (= dorsal sclerite) of the prothorax. The pronotum extends down the sides of the prothorax and, consequently, it mostly conceals the propleuron. The pronotum may be separated posteriorly from the mesonotum by the promesonotal suture or fused to it to form a single sclerite, the promesonotum.
