Wingspan 10–13 mm. Grey-brown forewings with a grey angled cross band in the middle of the wing, lighter and widened in the rear part. In the rear part of the outer field there are narrow longitudinal black lines on a brown background with white restrictions. Orange head and middle body. ​

Caterpillar

Dull yellowish green to yellow body. Head yellow brown, prothoracic plate and pinacula as the integument, only somewhat more shining, rear margin of the prothoracic shield with a conspicuous dark median spot. Anal comb brownish.

Bionomics

Oviposition on tip of a leaf, usually at the upper side. The larva mines from a silken tube the basal part of the leaves. Groups of a few mined leaves are tightly spun together. The greenish frass is ejected. Pupation in the ground.
The adults come to light.
