Imago

It is on average the larger species with a wingspan of up to 32 mm. Furthermore, it always has a more or less pronounced rusty brown spot behind the inner transverse line towards the base area. The inner transverse line is relatively straight, only slightly jagged.

Bionomics

The larva lives in the cone or a shoot. It hibernates. Pupation in the larval habitation, in rotten wood or detritus. The adults come to light.

Flight periods

The adults fly from mid-May till early October, but mainly during July/August.


Observed on

Host plant (species):
Pinus sylvestris, Pinus radiata, Picea abies, Abies procera, Pseudotsuga menziesii and Larix decidua

The larva lives in the cone or a shoot of Pinus, Abies procera or Pseudotsuga menziesii.
