A rare and local species throughout Belgium. Most records are mainly known from the Kempen. It was formerly more widespread.

This species is considered Near Threatened according to the IUCN Red List category for Flanders 2023.

Bionomics

The larva lives inside the stems or in a cocoon amongst grass blades. Pupation inside the cocoon or onder a stone. Overwinters as an egg.
During the day they visit flowers, especially thistles. They come to light in small numbers.

Flight periods

The adults fly in one generation a year, from early July to the end of September, but are mainly seen from the end of July till mid-August.
