Caterpillar

The whitish larva has a brownish to blackish head and further a typical upward-facing black hook on the black anal plate.

Bionomics

Eggs are laid in the flowers on the host plant where the young larva lives. When the larva gets older, it descends as a borer in the stem where it feeds on the pith and where pupation takes place in spring.
The adults are active in the daytime flying around the host plant and later coming to light.


Flight periods

The adults are on the wing from mid-May to late July.
