Wingspan 16–24 mm. It has an angular projection of the proximal margin of the median fascia and usually a darker ground colour

Bionomics

The eggs are laid in batches of 30-50 on the upper leaf surface and the young caterpillars hibernate. In spring they live in a rolled leaf.
Pupation takes places in this roll or between spun leaves.
They are active in the dusk and come to light.

The adults fly from the end of May till late September, occasionally till well into October in two generations a year.
